Toronto/Kitchener punk trio Sixteen Scandals have been churning out new music at an incredible clip over the past few years. Deluxe EP Dorkmantwo: Hellapropisms saw an extended digital release and we’re just catching up now.
Keeping with the theme of its predecessor, Dorkmanteau, Dorkmantwo leans hard into clever wordplay and commitment to the bit. As each song relates to a malapropism, Sixteen Scandals may get the words wrong but they get everything else right with an infectious set of songs that take over your brain function and cause you to sing along at unexpected (and inopportune occasions).
“We’re Off And Need The Wizard” is an ode to recording engineer Greg Dawson’s innate ability to lock down perfect tone.“To The Victor Goes The Soils” is all about plant addiction, but not the plant you’re thinking of. “You Can’t Buy Happiness, But You Can Buy Tickets To Pouzzafest” will ring true to anyone who has attended Montreal’s largest punk festival.
Until now, Dorkmantwo has only been available through digital streamers. Seeking to rectify this, the Scandals have teamed up with Cartridge Heart to create a more permanent version of the album. With a level of fidelity only achievable on physical media, stunning artwork by Greg Maxwell and absolute freedom from DRM, this compact disc is a welcome addition to any car stereo, discman or hi-fi sound system.
